Data Breach notice - July 2024

Povey Stirk Lawyers & Notaries act for CAAAPU and have been consulted in relation to what CAAAPU has identified as a security breach.

The breach was ascertained on 4 July 2024 and its IT provider undertook a review of what had transpired. In short, the attack was seemingly designed to access funds that would otherwise be paid out by our client to its suppliers.

Since then, remediation work has taken place to hopefully reduce the prospect of this ever occurring in the future. The attack was sophisticated and did require the attacker to undertake a lot of work in relation to its deception.

The investigation has suggested that the breach was confined to one account, but there is the prospect that there were links from that account to the email addresses of referred clients. As such, it is possible that the attacker may have been able to review client information. That information could possibly include the names, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers and medical/criminal history information of prospective clients.

Accordingly, it is desirable that you consider any emails that you receive where those emails are from sources that you do not know. It may also be prudent for you to change your account passwords if you had provided any information in referral documentation.

If you have any concerns about these matters, please contact CAAAPU on 8955 4600 and ask for Mr Michell. If CAAAPU becomes aware of anything further in relation to the security breach that could possibly affect you, you will be contacted.
